The Sanarpatti Project

The Goodwill Society in Tamil Nadu is in the process of replacing the three homes at Oddanchattaram, Dindigul and Pattiveeranpatti with a single site at Sanarpatti, a short distance from Dindigul. This new site has ample room for new homes and many of the facilities for older children which were lacking at the existing homes on the plains. Eventually this site will have homes for about 240 secondary school aged youngsters, a refectory, a small health center, a study center, trade training workshops and a sports and assembly hall.

Can you help us to raise the much needed funds to complete the project?

Goodwill in the UK is asking it's supporters to think along the following lines when considering donations and sponsorship. The residential units currently under construction will each be home for forty eight youngsters with three resident house parents. Each two storey home will have six or seven bedroom units with 8 children in each and there will also be washing and laundry facilities, a small kitchen and recreational space.

There are initial building costs of about £63,000, and in addition there will be the cost of furniture and equipment, so the figures we are working with are:

  • For one child - £2,000
  • For a bedroom unit for eight children - £12,000

We are asking individuals or small groups of supporters to consider raising the money for one child place. If a larger group believes it could raise £12,000 for a bedroom unit for eight children we would be delighted. We have set a deadline of January 1st 2010 as we understand that achieving such targets needs time. However, we would be very pleased to receive donations before this date if possible, as we would then be able to provide the accommodation which these children need and deserve that much earlier. We will be using reserves to pay for the initial construction work, and we are also aiming to raise money from different sources to fund the other buildings planned for the site.

The plan shows the site at Sanarpatti which is in the countryside outside Dindigul. The site is also quite close to a large Secondary School which the children can go to. The plan above shows not only the proposed location of the various facilities but also how areas of farmland will be kept to help produce food for the homes at Sanarpatti and at Thandigudi. The land currently produces significant amounts of rice, mangos and tamarinds.
