The Trustees

As required by the law in this country the Trustees are responsible for ensuring that the funds raised are properly managed and accounted for and that appropriate funds are transferred to our Indian partners: they are also responsible for the appointment and oversight of staff paid from the UK. (Administrator and Field Consultant).

Alan Hay – Chairman
Alan Hay's contact with Goodwill goes back to the 1980s when both his childrens' primary school and his parish church in Sheffield supported Goodwill projects - notably the well and water pump for the home at Thandigudi. Alan became a Trustee early in the 1990s and became Chairman in 1997 when Keith Traynar retired due to ill health.

Andrew Ling – Treasurer
Andrew became Treasurer in 2005. Andrew and his wife have been supporters of the Charity for over 10 years. He is a chartered accountant. See the Accounts for 2008 here.

Joan Meldrum – Secretary
Joan became a Trustee in1998. She became involved with Goodwill after her husband Alan went to Tamil Nadu in 1995 to set up the trade training courses for the children who would benefit from more practical skills training rather than academic education. Having visited the Homes in Tamil Nadu she was impressed with the care that the children received and was pleased to be asked to be a Trustee.

Quentin Edwards

Quentin Edwards - Vice Chairman- Quentin was Head of Bilton Grange School in Warwickshire for 11 years. The school was visited by George Kent, a fundraiser for Goodwill, in 1993 to tell the pupils about the life of children in Goodwill homes and the life for children who are orphaned in India. After the visit, Bilton Grange decided to offer support and sponsored 8 children in Goodwill homes. Following a career in boarding schools and an interest in pastoral care and child welfare, Quentin was invited to join the Trustees of Goodwill in 2004. He has recently taken back in hand his family farm and has a suckler herd of organic red pole cattle.

David Kirk - David first learned of the work of Goodwill in 1995 when George Kent, then fundraiser, preached at Canford School where David is a teacher and suggested there could be groups of sixth-formers visiting the Homes to appreciate the lives of Goodwill children and help them in whatever way possible. Since then there has been an annual visit by David and his students and a strong link has been forged. David became a trustee in 1999 with special interest in India.

Prema Salt - Prema is a member of the Goodwill supporters group in Sheffield. Prema was born in Tamil Nadu, not far from where Goodwill homes are. She is delighted to be part of Goodwill and its work with children in need.
