Trade Training in practical and marketable skills for Tribal Youth and youngsters in residential Care In 1998 Goodwill set up four vocational training courses within the Pattiveeranpatti and Thandigudi campus’ with funding from the UK Government and the European Union. These programmes were extremely successful and now there are totally seven courses including two specifically for youth from tribal communities and running in KC Patti at TORP community centre. At Thandigudi two well established workshops provide one-year National Council for Vocational Trade courses in Cutting & Tailoring and Electrical Wiring. At Pattiveeranpatti three, one year courses give youngsters training in Dressmaking, Three & Four Wheeler Mechanics and Computer (use, programming and repair) all three are recognised by state government. In early 2005 two small training programmes were set up in rented accommodation in the village of KC Patti, these proved to be extremely popular. With support from Guernsey Overseas Aid in 2006 Goodwill has been able to construct and equip two units for job based training adjacent to the new TORP community centre. Initially courses will provide training in Motorcycle Maintenance and Dressmaking, but it is intended that they are flexible in providing the skills needed by the youngsters in these communities.
