Most of the children in Goodwill Homes come from the tribal communities living in the mountain regions of the lower and upper Palani Hills. There are also a number of children coming from the adjoining districts of Dindigul, Madurai, Theni and Virudhunagar. Most of the children from the tribal communities come from villages within a radius of 60 kilometers and the remaining children from areas within a radius of about 100 kilometers from the plains.
The most important reason for seeking admission into Goodwill Homes is the parents’ inability to bring up their child themselves. There are various causes for this such as poor health or the premature death of a parent. There are also children who have lost both their parents and their relatives were not able to support them. There are tribal communities living in very remote villages on the hills and they are extremely poor. Goodwill Homes take these children in and support them with shelter, good education and health needs.
Being a sponsor involves more than donating, you empower these children with the fundamental building blocks through which they can improve their own lives and those of their families and the communities in which they live. You get to build a personal relationship with the child you support. Sponsors receive three letters a year from India (for the younger children who cannot yet write in English this will include a translation), an annual report that includes a recent photograph and two newsletters from the UK office.

It currently costs 82p a day to keep a child in one of our homes. By sponsoring a child, you can give them a future of opportunity for as little as £25 a month. India is home to some of the world’s poorest people, with many millions living on less than 40p a day. Be assured that whatever you give, will go a long way - even a few pounds is enough to provide them with 3 meals a day, clothes, a school uniform, shoes and other basic necessities.
